Five Desserts that feel like a Warm Hug.
Hello everyone, Valentines Day just passed us by and let me tell you, it was a lonely experience for me. And watching couples go out and about made me smile, it also intensified the feeling of being alone on the day meant to celebrate love.
So, I turned to my favourite course of all- Desserts.
First up, we have the Jalebi. Found in nearly every state of the country, this sugary delight melts in your mouth and makes you go back for more. I am yet to meet a person who has satiated their cravings with just one jalebi. Every alternate sweet shop fries this delicacy throughout the day. But I love it the best after munching down on something savory and spicy, especially luchi and aloo dum. Jalebis also bring back fond memories of when my grandfather used to bring an entire packet of it on Sunday morning.
Next we have a simple scoop of ice cream. A small but wholesome dessert, this one is a winner for all. With ice cream outlets selling varieties of flavours today, it is hard to leave with just one scoop. I always end up getting too. It gives me a brain freeze, but it was so worth it after the difficult day I had. My choice would be a scoop of blackcurrant ice cream as well as vanilla.
Third on my list is a lemon tart. A French dessert, mostly found in quaint cafes, this one is definitely the hardest to come by. Scrolling down on Food delivery apps on V Day, I finally found a shop which was nearby. The crust was perfect and flaky and the custard- rich and creamy. Topped with half an almond, this was a picturesque one as well. Whoever made lemon tarts for the first time, I will take this moment to say a quick thank you.
Next we have one of my quick fixes that I can turn to whenever I am broke. Made with literally 5 ingredients, this is what I turn to whenever I want something fudge like- a mug cake, to be more precise. Mixing flour, cocoa powder and baking powder along with sugar and milk, helps brings this delicacy to life. I bake it for a minute and half and it comes out fluffy like a cloud. Those YouTube recipes really pay off.
Lastly, I have a custom dessert which can be a favourite on your list too. I got two crackers and put jam on one side and pasted the other on top. And there you have it folks, a jam cracker sandwich (I am still working on the name and also sure someone has made this before). But nonetheless, I am proud of this creation.
A very happy Pal-entine’s day to everyone out there. Even if you do not have a Valentine, that is completely fine, I can be your pal and hopefully some of these desserts help you get through the tough and trying times, like they have helped me. Cheers.
